We're happy to announce that on Sunday morning of the Spring Fling at around 11 AM (just after the entomology clinic), Mr Al Norake of Wright & McGill will present a Spey Clinic. Al did a clinic for us last fall and we have had a lot of requests for a repeat. So if you sign up for the Fling, you be in for a treat. Learn to cast the long rod with one of the best. THIS should be fun.....

Spring Fling 2008 price is $175 per participant. Read the narrative below....

2008 SPRING FLING

On March 28,29 and 30 Royal Gorge Anglers will host the 6th Annual Spring Fling at the Arkansas River KOA in Cotopaxi. This year's Fling will be largely like the ones in the past with a check in on Friday evening to get paperwork out of the way followed by a voluntary cocktail hour. On Saturday, you will be placed in a small group(4 or less) at a requested skill level for fly fishing instruction. You'll spend all day working on new techniques that will speed you on your way if you are a beginner and enhance your skills if you already have a few years under your belt. On Saturday night, Bill, Larry and Curtis will treat you to a real Texas style barbeque which is included in the price and to which your entire family is welcome at no extra charge. Sunday will conclude with an entomology clinic and tying instructions. Jim and Amy at the KOA will again offer lodging in the form of motel rooms, cabins, hookups or tent sites at 25% off regular rates. Some equipment will be available for those who request it early. Come and join us for this year's fling. We cap attendance at 40 and it is always full, so register early. Just e mail us or call toll free for more information or to register. See you there

OKTOBERPFISH

On Saturday, October 6, beginning around 10 AM, please join us for our second annual Fall playday, Oktoberphish (Octoberfest, Bratfest, Fishingfest, Funfest), held at the Arkansas River KOA, one mile
East of Cotopaxi on US50. This year's event will be sponsored by Wright & McGill of Denver, Colorado. We'll offer a full day of fun and casting lessons for everyone......beginner
casting, advanced casting, and even a Spey casting class with Al Noraker of Wright & McGill and the staff of Royal Gorge Anglers. Al will also have a special deal on the new Wright & McGill rods for participants. Around 2PM, we'll cook Brats, so bring your favorite beverage and have some
fun. As a matter of fact, why don't you call up the folks at the KOA 719 275 9308 and reserve a room, cabin,
or camp site for the whole weekend. Fishing will be great right there on the property, so no need to even
go home. Except for lodging, everything is free, but please give us a call and tell us how many will be in
your party, so we'll have enough food for everyone. See you there.

Spey Techniques For Colorado Trout

When you mention Spey rods and Spey casting, most people assume you are talking about very long, heavy fly rods to 15’ or more being used in Canada or the NW for Salmon & Steelhead. For the most part, they would be assuming correctly! However, many of these same techniques can be used effectively in the smaller rivers found in the Rocky Mountain States for trout.

Royal Gorge Anglers and the Wright & McGill Co. is proud to offer a free class that will focus casting techniques, the newest gear available and even the best fly patterns that will open up an entirely new fly-fishing opportunity for you.

During this “on the water” seminar you will be exposed to the new W&M Essentials “Switch Rod” which is an 11’ for 5 wt. light Spey that will totally change the way you think about swinging streamers and roll casting. You’ll have the opportunity to cast these rods and learn from Bill, Al Noraker of Wright&McBill, and otheres on how to effectively use these rods in many different ways. Every participant will also have the opportunity to purchase one of these new “Switch” rods through Royal Gorge Anglers and a factory direct introductory price available only at this event.

Seminar Topics
1. Spey Casting Styles
• Single Spey
• “C” Spey or Snap “T”

2. Other “Switch” rod uses
