The Arkansas River tumbles over 120 miles from its headwaters at Leadville to Canon City, cutting through canyons and mountain valleys on its way to the plains.

This is the west at its best. Canon City was home to John Wayne and Tom Mix as they blazed across the big screen. Westerns are still made here and you can visit the movie locations and sets at the Royal Gorge. From gold belt routes to gaming in Cripple Creek, this area has much to offer members of the family who may not be interested in wetting a line.
