The Patagonia Region of South America comprised of parts of Argentina a Chile, is widely known as the finest trout fishing known to planet earth. Imagine North America's trout streams 100 years ago, and thats what you can expect in Argentina. A giant variety of fisheries and focuses allows for many trips to this region, and the average quality of fish is the best in the world. Tack on the incredible culture, food, and wine...Argentina is simply a bucket list trip!
Fly fishing in the heart of Patagonia is a unique experience. Imagine casting to big, healthy Rainbow, Browns and Brook trout in crystal clear water without seeing another person all day. There are miles of still and moving waters throughout Nahuel Huapi National Park with very little fishing pressure. RML waters offer a complete variety of different types of fishing, from big dry flies and weighted streamers to tiny emergers, nymphs and spinners. When fishing the Manso River, much of your fishing will be with streamers and sinking lines. Hatches on most of the river are sporadic and the biggest fish are best drawn out with streamer patterns. There are several sections where nymphs are especially effective, and a tiny spring creek where sight casting to cruising fish can be a delightful change of pace.
One of the jewels at Rio Manso Lodge is Lago Fonck. This four mile long lake offers big rainbows, browns and brook trout. Depending on the time of year, RML guides fish streamers and dry flies on the lake, often both during a typical day. Dragon flies, damsels, and caddis flies all hatch on the lake and the trout cruise the lakeshore weed beds in search of a meal. Guides fish the edges from a Carolina skiff, working the structure where rainbow and brook trout lay, with the occasional brown as well. With the added bonus of spotting an Andean Condor circling overhead, and beautiful Mount Tronador in the distance, a day on Fonck is always a special day.
The above mentioned waters are just a few of the dozens of options while staying at the lodge. One of our clients put it best, "You could fish a new piece of water every day for a month at Rio Manso Lodge, and not fish the same water twice!"
Rebuilt in 2004 and uniquely designed, every one of the 9 guest rooms at Rio Manso Lodge face northwest with spectacular views of Lago Hess and the Andes Mountains. Just 15 miles away towers majestic Monte Tronador located on the border with Chile. If the weather is clear, the mountain looks close enough to touch. Each room is comfortably appointed with either King Size or two Full Size beds and private bath. Some are equipped with a Jacuzzi as well. Many guests sleep with their windows open to let in the crisp, cool mountain air. The lodge features a full wader room for tackle and waders, a fly tying area, a small, but well-equipped bar, and a spacious sitting area in front of our river stone fireplace. Many nights it is cool enough to enjoy the warmth and comfort of a roaring fire. We normally serve cocktails and hors d’oeuvres there each evening. Should you require assistance any time of day or night, the front desk staff is always available. The lodge has a sauna available to drive out the chill and loosen those stiff casting muscles.
After many seasons of hard work, Estancia Laguna Verde can offer access to more than 14 km of Lake Strobel, including several protected bays from the famous Patagonian wind (feared by many anglers). In spots such as Monsters bay, Camelot Bay, Finger bay, Tasmania Bay, Sea Bay, Puesto Bay and Dry Fly Bay fly fishers can do outstanding sight fishing even in the hardest of conditions. This astounding variety has made a fast growing number of anglers want to keep coming back, year after year, for more sight fishing for chrome monsters.
One of the Estancia´s highlight programs is the incredible Barrancoso River, the one and only tributary of Strobel Lake. This beautiful freestone river runs for more than 10 km through our Estancia which allows our guests to access most of its fishing parts. Anglers can fish until the last meters where it enters Strobel lake (Keep in mind that Argentinean regulations do not allow fishing in the river mouth and its surrounding 100 meters.) In this dreamlike river with its see-through waters and amazing runs of huge trout, anglers can fish 3 different parts named: upper, middle and lower section. Those sections have 2 beats each with its own characteristic features, offering outstanding and demanding fishing all throughout.
With more than a dozen other fantastic lakes chained by Moro creek, Estancia Laguna Verde adds much more variety to its programs. Some of the most popular lakes are Verde, just in front of the lodge, which offers great fishing for rainbow, brown and brook trout; Texas lake, too, gives anglers the chance of catching big rainbows and browns wading or from boats. Others such as Horseshoe, Los Flacos, Chanchos, Ahogados, and Reja, to name a few, also provide fantastic fishing and enable guests to try varied combinations in different programs all along the season.
Estancia Laguna Verde Lodge is strategically located just by the beautiful “Laguna Verde” (Green Lake), only a cast away from the fantastic trout fishing you can enjoy there, and from access to a wide variety of fishing programs offered. The Lodge main building is a typical “Estancia house” accommodating up to 10 anglers per week. It has 7 double bedrooms with comfortable “en suite” bathrooms, provided with hot water 24/7, each with 2 single beds (Single room lodging and guiding can be provided for an additional cost). The spacious living room overlooking Laguna Verde is one of the favorite spots in the lodge. Anglers can sip on a cocktail while enjoying, on the 42´ LCD TV set, slide shows of the catches of the day. Satellite TV connection and a DVD player are available for entertainment, as well. For complete relaxation, we provided that room with a fly tying desk and library to enjoy when not fishing. There is also a newly built changing room / drying facility located just by the entrance door of the lodge to use before and after fishing. We want to make sure anglers have all the fishing gear (such as waders, wading boots, rods, reels, vests, etc) ready and dried day after day.
The Lodge also offers visitors Satellite and IP telephone and free unlimited wireless Internet access. To avoid extra luggage, anglers can use the computer at the lodge. Windmill generators, and fuel generators as back up, guarantee the energy demands of the Lodge, providing electricity (220 volt.) 24 hs a day. Laundry service is provided twice a week if desired by guests, as well as any other special attention needed or wanted. The staff at the lodge offers friendly and professional attention to create a cosy and hassle-free atmosphere to guarantee all guests have a truly unforgettable experience.
