Fishing Report for the South Platte River

South Platte River Fly Fishing Report

Dream Stream (Charlie Meyers SWA)

General Overview

Productivity has been mediocre at best on the Dream Stream with low flows and picky fish. Its typical to see fishing slow down in late August with the slight ramp down in Trico activity. We will likely see some lake run Browns make their way into the system here shortly.

Stream Conditions

Flowrate above Elevenmile Reservoir: 144 CFS

Clarity: Clear

Suggested Methods

Your focal point bugs through the Summer season are Tricos, Yellow Sallies, Caddis, BWOs, Midges, Hoppers and Sow bugs. Be prepared with full lifecycles. Dry/ Dropper can be effective at lower light and typically we'll pivot to nymphing in the high sun hours. Trico hatches can be very strong at times and spinnerfalls are the optimal time to get fish on the surface.

Spinney Mountain Ranch (Above Spinney Reservoir)

General Overview

Flows are extremely low above Spinney...look elsewhere for now.

Elevenmile Canyon

General Overview

Summer fishing has been great in the canyon with strong Trico activity. Pressure has been heavy however, so get on the river as early as you can and try to give the fish a break on those warm afternoons.
