An Intro to the Minnequa Dam Redesign Project

The Arkansas River Watershed Collaborative (ARWC) has launched a planning & feasibility study to evaluate potential design alternatives for the Minnequa Diversion Dam on the Arkansas River near Pueblo. This study, supported by a Capacity & Technical Assistance Grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) and broad community-backed funding, will assess options for improving aquatic organism passage, river connectivity, and recreational access while maintaining existing water use needs.

Built in 1943, the Minnequa Diversion Dam plays a critical role in diverting water for industrial, municipal, and agricultural needs, including important supplies for EVRAZ North America and the City of Florence. This feasibility study will evaluate potential design solutions to improve habitat conditions, expand recreational opportunities, and enhance river safety and function, while maintaining existing water uses.
